Description

Motorcycle tires are an important part of motorcycles.

1.Tire structure

Tread

This is the part of the tire that makes contact with the ground.

Its pattern design is very important, and different patterns are used for different road conditions.

For example, road tires have smooth tread patterns, while off-road tires have deep tread patterns and blocky bumps.

Tire side

The tire side mainly supports the shape of the tire, and it will mark the tire specifications, brands, production date and other important information.

It needs to have a certain degree of elasticity and toughness to cope with the lateral force during vehicle driving and prevent excessive tire deformation.

Cord layer

The cord layer is the skeleton of the tire and is composed of multiple layers of fiber fabric (such as nylon, polyester, etc.) or steel wire.

It determines the strength and stability of the tire, which can withstand the weight of the vehicle, the impact force and centrifugal force during driving.

Airtight layer

The main function is to prevent gas leakage and maintain the air pressure inside the tire.

It is usually made of a special rubber material with good air tightness.

2.Tire type

Road tires

Suitable for driving on flat roads, focusing on speed and comfort.

It is characterized by a shallow tread pattern and low rolling resistance, providing good handling and fuel economy.

For example, some tires used in large-displacement road racing cars can maintain a stable grip at high speeds.

Off-road tires

Designed for use on non-paved surfaces, such as sandy, muddy, rocky, etc. Off-road tires have deep and complex tread patterns.

With large pattern blocks and sharp edges that penetrate deep into soft ground and provide strong traction.

At the same time, its tire walls are usually thicker to cope with the collision and extrusion that may occur in complex road conditions.

Dual-Purpose tires (ADV tires)

These tires combine the characteristics of road and off-road tires, and can be used both on the road and in some light off-road road conditions.

For example, some adventure motorcycles equipped with ADV tires, can maintain good driving performance on the road.

In the encounter of simple dirt or gravel roads can also have a certain ability to pass.

3.Tire specifications

Motorcycle tire specifications are usually indicated by a set of numbers and letters, such as “120/70-17”.

“120” indicates the width of the tire (in millimeters).

“70” is the flat ratio of the tire (as a percentage of tire height to width).

“17” indicates the diameter of the rim (in inches).

Different motorcycle models need to match different specifications of tires to ensure the performance and safety of the vehicle.

4.Tire performance index

Grip

One of the most important performance indicators of a tire.

It is directly related to the safety and handling performance of the motorcycle.

Tires with good grip fit better into the ground during acceleration, braking and cornering, reducing the risk of skidding.

For example, on wet roads, high-quality tires can maintain a certain grip through special patterns and rubber formulations.

Wear resistance

Reflects the service life of the tire. Tires with good wear resistance can be used for a long time under normal driving conditions.

Reducing the frequency of tire replacement.

However, in general, tires with good grip may have slightly less wear resistance.

Because tire manufacturers need to balance between the two.

Rolling resistance

Tires with low rolling resistance are able to turn more easily while driving.

Helping to improve fuel economy and the speed of the vehicle.

Road tires usually have low rolling resistance.

Off-road tires have relatively high rolling resistance due to their complex pattern and structure.
